Antivert, an antihistamine, is prescribed for the management of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness.
Antivert may also be prescribed for the management of vertigo (a spinning sensation or a feeling that the ground is tilted) due to diseases affecting the vestibular system (the bony labyrinth of the ear, which contains the sensors that control your balance).

Antivert Nervous system side effects
Nervous system (CNS) side effects have included drowsiness and sedation. Motor skills may be impaired.
With continued therapy, sedation due to meclizine diminishes.
An elderly woman suffered from memory loss, disorientation, paranoia, and agitation during treatment with meclizine over approximately 3 years. These symptoms returned on rechallenge.
Antivert Gastrointestinal side effects
Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea, dry mouth, and constipation.
Antivert Ocular side effects
Ocular side effects have included blurred vision, diplopia, and dry eyes.
Antivert Genitourinary side effects
Genitourinary side effects have included urinary retention and dysuria.

Since Antivert is sometimes taken only when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Use Antivert exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended.
Take Antivert with a full glass of water.
The chewable tablet may be swallowed whole, crushed, or chewed.
To prevent motion sickness, take Antivert about 1 hour before you travel or engage in activity that causes motion sickness. You may take Antivert once every 24 hours while you are traveling, to further prevent motion sickness.
To treat vertigo, you may need to take Antivert several times daily. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Antivert can cause you to have unusual results with allergy skin tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are taking an antihistamine.
Store Antivert at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

You should not take Antivert if you are allergic to meclizine.

* asthma or other breathing disorder;
* glaucoma;
* an enlarged prostate; or
* problems with urination.
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use Antivert, or you may need a dose adjustment or special tests during treatment.
